NEW YORK – (June 2, 2008) - To honor the 50th anniversary of the New York Road Runners, June 1-8 was Running Week in New York City. Monday, June 2 featured the successful youth running programs developed and supported by NYRR and an announcement about the goal to expand those programs to all 50 states.
Nine-time New York City Marathon winner Grete Waitz, chairwoman of the NYRRF Foundation, joined more than 200 NYRRF kids from five Harlem elementary schools for a morning of running-themed events and activities at a local school. The event included the Mighty Milers Fun Run, with 50 kids running a mile each in honor of the New York Road Runners' 50th anniversary.
